Library History

This web site is an online gateway to the library resources, services and facilities of University Malaysia Perlis, formerly known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia or in short, KUKUM. The library was established in year 2002 at Level 1, KWSP Building in Kangar.

The first Chief Librarian, Puan Hajah Foyziah Ahmad Nasuruddin initiated various library development projects covering collection development in engineering subject areas, ICTorientedservices, self-services facilities, electronic resources, and many others.

Since it's establishment in year 2002, the library provides excellent services to support the teaching, learning and research activities of the University. The library is fully equipped with ICT infrastructures, to begin with complete implementation of RFID components for all library items. Integrated library systems called Virtua is fully utilised in year 2004 and other online services and facilities were introduced along. With it's customer focused orientation and the abundance used of Information Technology, the library inspires to be the leading engineering library in this region. UniMAP Library at KWSP Building strived to continue providing up-to-date facilities and and services to library users within limited library space.

Our library commons was oficially open in year 2009 featuring leisure areas, light reading section, laptop zone and Infoaccess Lab. In the same year, the new mini library at School of Manufacturing building complex was officially launched to serve library users in Pauh Putra Campus.

Construction work of permanent library building in Pauh Putra started in year 2009 and it was completed in July 2011. Designing process was carried out by our very own library staff in January 2011. Implementing the nature's campus concept, the library building adopts three main themes for each level, including seas, gardens and skies.

 

The new library is blessed with wonderful advanced technologies, modern furnitures and up-to-date IT facilities. Special areas such as laptop zones, leisure areas, infotainment zone, noise zone and learning pods have becoming new attractions for library users. The library is obviously designed to cater collaborative learning areas, supporting group discussion activities and broadening access to online information and services.
